Cencel, Elaine, Mezzo, *(192?) Colorado, she studied in California, sang in Germany in the late 1950's. Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano, made her carreer in Germany: Heidelberg, Dresden, Bielefeld, Wiesbaden, Lübeck, Schwetzinger Festival, Düsseldorf. Wuppertal.  Repertoire: All roles done in professional performances in Europe: Brangäne in "Tristan and Isolde", Fricka in "Das Rheingold" and "Die Walkure", Erda in "Siegfried", Waltraute in "Gotterdämmerung ", Carmen in "Carmen" (over 70 performances), Anna in "Der Revisor", Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth", Herodias in "Salome", Eboli in "Don Carlos", Composer, in "Ariadne auf Naxos", Azucena in "Il Trovatore", Maddalena in "Rigoletto", Marcellina in "Marriage of Figaro", Preziosilla in "Forza del Destino", Niklausse in "Tales of Hoffman", The Mother in "Der Gefangene", Story Teller in "Der Zaubertrank", Alte Buryia in "Jenufa", Ulrica in "Masked Ball", Ortrud in " Lohengrin", Desderia in "The Saint of Bleeker Street", Witch in " Hänsel and Gretel". She sang Carmen with Hans Hopf, Herodias with Inge Borkh as Salome, Fricka with Ferdinand Frantz and Mina Bolotine, Erda with Sebastian Feiersinger and Liane Synek, Waltraute with Bernd Aldenhoff and Liane Synek, Brangaene with Helene Werth and Walter Geisler. She worked with Christoph von Dohnanyi (Berlin) and Bernhard Conz (Assistant to Karajan), Wolfgang Sawallisch, Herbert von Karajan. Degrees: BM & MM (in Voice and Pedagogy) University of Colorado in Boulder 2 yrs. Post Grad study at University of Southern California. Voice Teachers: Ethelynne Thorpe Armand Tokalyan Herbert Grossman (husband and teacher of Leonie Rysanek).
